Overwhelm is a sign that you don’t feel safe — inside yourself or outside yourself. But no external thing can provide that safety.
“There’s no amount of money that can make you feel safe. There’s no lover that can make you feel safe. There’s no car or vaccination that can make you feel safe. The only thing that can make you feel safe is knowing yourself.”
Knowing yourself means having an internal home to return to at any time. From that ground, bad things can still happen, but they lose their existential threat. They’re just events — real and potentially painful, but not annihilating.
This is the deeper answer to overwhelm: not better time management or stress reduction, but the development of inner ground that doesn’t depend on circumstances.
