Joe explains why the Art of Accomplishment work gives rise to awakening so often even though it never targets it: the entire method is welcoming. You welcome the thoughts, the pain, the suffering, the anger, the fear—everything. That unconditional welcoming is itself a seeing-through of the self, because the self is largely built out of what it refuses.

This stands in contrast to the management mindset Joe brought to early meditation, where he had “a list of things that I should be” and spent every session engineering a state. Wanting to reach a safe, good feeling and do something to get there is, he notes, just running—and running maintains the very separateness it’s trying to escape.

“There’s nothing in our teaching that isn’t you’re welcoming this… so that just that welcoming.”

The deeper principle is that any clear seeing dismantles identity automatically. You don’t have to manufacture awakening; you have to stop managing yourself away from your own experience and let what’s already here be fully met. “Any version of seeing yourself clearly will start to dismantle your identity. It just can’t not.”
