Joe watches Theo’s language shift from “I guess I want a new story” to “I’m ready for a new story,” and notes that nothing forced the change. Theo simply kept bringing awareness to the question and letting it settle. People make transformation complicated, Joe says, but often it’s just this: notice the thing, feel what’s happening, stay connected to yourself, and it begins to move.

“Sometimes it’s just bringing your awareness to it and letting that awareness settle in it and feeling what’s happening and connecting with yourself while you’re doing it is all that’s necessary.”

The effortful move — “it’s my job to let go of this” — actually slows things down. Theo isn’t trying to let go; he’s just paying attention, and it changes on its own.

“The whole ‘I have to’ thing actually slows down the process.”

Joe offers the deeper frame: your nature is to evolve. A tree doesn’t instruct itself to reach for the sun. Trusting that movement, rather than forcing it, is the real work — and the biggest hack is to trust who you are rather than believing you must become more to deserve what’s already coming.

“A tree doesn’t have to tell itself to reach towards the sun. It just happens.”
