Humans have a migratory path—we know how we’re supposed to evolve, the way a bird knows its way home. We don’t know it consciously, but we know it. When you follow your wonder and run experiments based on what genuinely pulls you, you’re trusting that path rather than trusting a book or a teacher.

A book might give you one or two relevant epiphanies—and different ones if you read it again in six months—because you could only receive what matched where you were on your path. But experiments guided by genuine curiosity are always right on your path, because they emerge from where you actually are.
Over time, Joe’s relationship to experiments evolved: first rebellious sovereignty (nobody tells me what to do), then genuine wonder-driven exploration, then something like surrender—experiments show up and he follows them like a guru.
