We understand fear of failure. But fear of success?
“I might succeed. And then the person who I think I am—the person who’s struggling—I won’t be that person anymore. I’ll be the person who’s actually winning.”
The Hidden Fears
- Will I lose my ambition if I’m winning?
- Will I lose the people who love me?
- Will I be the tall poppy that gets cut?
Success means identity change. That’s terrifying to parts of us.
How It Shows Up
The doubt looks the same whether you fear failure or success. It slows you down. It raises “concerns.” It feels logical.
But underneath, it’s protecting you from having to become someone new.
The Implication
If you keep sabotaging success you’re capable of achieving, the issue might not be fear of failure. It might be fear of who you’d have to become.
