If you truly see through a limiting belief, you don’t need to do anything extra to change it. Joe compares it to understanding that two plus two equals four — you don’t have to remind yourself or create an action plan to remember it. If you’re asking “what do I have to do to unstick this limiting belief,” it means you haven’t fully seen through it yet.
This is a profound trust in awareness itself. Putting effort into changing a belief after you’ve seen it is actually telling yourself you don’t see it. The effort becomes another layer of constriction — “I’ve got to find the limiting beliefs, I think I see them but I don’t see through them, so now I’ve got to dig harder” — which is itself a limiting belief.
The antidote is gentleness. Joe points out that it requires enormous effort NOT to evolve, not to shift, not to mature. Everyone has already changed thousands of beliefs in their lifetime without any effort at all — beliefs about God, money, love, sex, work — all shifted naturally across decades. The process is inherently easy. “Let go the effort, allow for gentleness to do its work.”
